Hear Us, O Shepherd of Israel

¹Hear us, O Shepherd of Israel,who leads Joseph like a flock;You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,shine forth

²before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh.Rally Your mighty powerand come to save us.

³Restore us, O God,and cause Your face to shine upon us,that we may be saved.

⁴O LORD God of Hosts,how long will Your anger smolderagainst the prayers of Your people?

⁵You fed them with the bread of tearsand made them drink the full measure of their tears.

⁶You make us contend with our neighbors;our enemies mock us.

⁷Restore us, O God of Hosts,and cause Your face to shine upon us,that we may be saved.

⁸You uprooted a vine from Egypt;You drove out the nations and transplanted it.

⁹You cleared the ground for it,and it took root and filled the land.

¹⁰The mountains were covered by its shade,and the mighty cedars with its branches.

¹¹It sent out its branches to the Sea,and its shoots toward the River.

¹²Why have You broken down its walls,so that all who pass by pick its fruit?

¹³The boar from the forest ravages it,and the creatures of the field feed upon it.

¹⁴Return, O God of Hosts, we pray!Look down from heaven and see!Attend to this vine—

¹⁵the root Your right hand has planted,the son You have raised up for Yourself.

¹⁶Your vine has been cut down and burned;they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.

¹⁷Let Your hand be upon the man at Your right hand,on the son of man You have raised up for Yourself.

¹⁸Then we will not turn away from You;revive us, and we will call on Your name.

¹⁹Restore us, O LORD God of Hosts;cause Your face to shine upon us,that we may be saved.

Redeem Us, O God

¹We have heard with our ears, O God;our fathers have told usthe work You did in their days,in the days of old.

²With Your hand You drove out the nationsand planted our fathers there;You crushed the peoplesand cast them out.

³For it was not by their sword that they took the land;their arm did not bring them victory.It was by Your right hand,Your arm, and the light of Your face,because You favored them.

⁴You are my King, O God,who ordains victories for Jacob.

⁵Through You we repel our foes;through Your name we trample our enemies.

⁶For I do not trust in my bow,nor does my sword save me.

⁷For You save us from our enemies;You put those who hate us to shame.

⁸In God we have boasted all day long,and Your name we will praise forever.Selah

⁹But You have rejected and humbled us;You no longer go forth with our armies.

¹⁰You have made us retreat from the foe,and those who hate us have plundered us.

¹¹You have given us up as sheep to be devoured;You have scattered us among the nations.

¹²You sell Your people for nothing;no profit do You gain from their sale.

¹³You have made us a reproach to our neighbors,a mockery and derision to those around us.

¹⁴You have made us a byword among the nations,a laughingstockamong the peoples.

¹⁵All day long my disgrace is before me,and shame has covered my face,

¹⁶at the voice of the scorner and reviler,because of the enemy, bent on revenge.

¹⁷All this has come upon us,though we have not forgotten Youor betrayed Your covenant.

¹⁸Our hearts have not turned back;our steps have not strayed from Your path.

¹⁹But You have crushed us in the lair of jackals;You have covered us with deepest darkness.

²⁰If we had forgotten the name of our Godor spread out our hands to a foreign god,

²¹would not God have discovered,since He knows the secrets of the heart?

²²Yet for Your sake we face death all day long;we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.

²³Wake up, O Lord! Why are You sleeping?Arise! Do not reject us forever.

²⁴Why do You hide Your faceand forget our affliction and oppression?

²⁵For our soul has sunk to the dust;our bodies cling to the earth.

²⁶Rise up; be our help!Redeem us on account of Your loving devotion.

You Showed Favor to Your Land

¹You showed favor to Your land, O LORD;You restored Jacob from captivity.

²You forgave the iniquity of Your people;You covered all their sin.Selah

³You withheld all Your fury;You turned from Your burning anger.

⁴Restore us, O God of our salvation,and put away Your displeasure toward us.

⁵Will You be angry with us forever?Will You draw out Your anger to all generations?

⁶Will You not revive us again,that Your people may rejoice in You?

⁷Show us Your loving devotion, O LORD,and grant us Your salvation.

⁸I will listen to what God the LORD will say;for He will surely speak peace to His people and His saints;He will not let them return to folly.

⁹Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him,that His glory may dwell in our land.

¹⁰Loving devotion and faithfulness have joined together;righteousness and peace have kissed.

¹¹Faithfulness sprouts from the earth,and righteousness looks down from heaven.

¹²The LORD will indeed provide what is good,and our land will yield its increase.

¹³Righteousness will go before Himto prepare the way for His steps.

A Prayer for Deliverance

¹The nations, O God, have invaded Your inheritance;they have defiled Your holy templeand reduced Jerusalem to rubble.

²They have given the corpses of Your servantsas food to the birds of the air,the flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.

³They have poured out their blood like waterall around Jerusalem,and there is no one to bury the dead.

⁴We have become a reproach to our neighbors,a scorn and derision to those around us.

⁵How long, O LORD?Will You be angry forever?Will Your jealousy burn like fire?

⁶Pour out Your wrath on the nationsthat do not acknowledge You,on the kingdomsthat refuse to call on Your name,

⁷for they have devoured Jacoband devastated his homeland.

⁸Do not hold past sins against us;let Your compassion come quickly,for we are brought low.

⁹Help us, O God of our salvation,for the glory of Your name;deliver us and atone for our sins,for the sake of Your name.

¹⁰Why should the nations ask,“Where is their God?”Before our eyes, make known among the nationsYour vengeance for the bloodshed of Your servants.

¹¹May the groans of the captives reach You;by the strength of Your arm preserve those condemned to death.

¹²Pay back into the laps of our neighborssevenfold the reproach they hurled at You, O Lord.

¹³Then we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture,will thank You forever;from generation to generationwe will declare Your praise.
